Training Your Dog

Many of my friends have pet dogs. Some dogs so easily understand what their master is telling them and obey it at once. While there are other dogs that just don’t listen and finally need to be tied up. Training is the key factor that determines your dog’s behavior. A well trained dog will definitely make his master proud.
There are many advantages of training your dog. Training helps to build a healthy relation between you and your dog. Communication too becomes easier. Your dog will understand exactly what you want him to do. Basic training of obedience is important and teaches your dog proper manners. That would make him friendlier and would prevent unacceptable behavior such as jumping, barking or biting.

Dogs are intelligent, so it is easy to train them. Start training them as early as possible. Repeat one easy command time and again till he masters it. Correct him if he does it wrong. Praise and reward him once he gets it right. You can first train them in the basic obedience commands such as sit down, heel, come, no, leave it, fetch it, don’t jump and then go ahead with toilet training. Another good thing is to get dog training collars so you can also train them and let them know when they do good or bad things.

Always remember to be patient when training your dog and keep your training sessions short and fun.

Keeping Pet Fish

So you want to keep a pet fish. That’s a great idea. Fish make the most wonderful and attractive pets and they are less expensive as compared to other pets. Also, they are easier to handle.

You can keep fresh water fish or salt water fish. After you have made your choice, set up the tank in a good place. Add the filter, the gravel, fish props and real rocks to cover the bottom of the tank. You may also require heaters and lighting depending on the fish you keep. Take proper care as the first few days of starting a fish tank can be risky for the fish.

You can feed your fish formulated food available in flakes and pellets form. You can also give them bloodworms, brine shrimps or earthworm flakes. Remember to remove excess food or else the water would get polluted.

Clean your fish’s home (tank) thoroughly at least once a month. When cleaning the tank remember not to change all the water at once. Remove only 20% of the water. Also remember not to use any detergent to clean the tank. The new water should be replaced only once it reaches room temperature.

Now go ahead and watch your fish swim around. It would relax you and bring a smile on your face.

Pet Cats

A cat is truly lovable and that’s the reason many people opt to keep them as pets. They are small, neat, and delicate and look so cute. They come in different colors and coats. Their temperaments also differ. They can provide hours of entertainment for the whole family. A cats purring sounds lovely and soothing.

You need to take good care of these wonderful pets of yours. However, it is relatively easy to take care of cats as compared to dogs. They are content on a sofa or a window sill and do ask for a lot of your time and attention. They are very independent and possess emotional intelligence.

Your pet cat will stay healthy and fit if you provide her with nutritional food. Cats are not very fussy but do prefer variety of food. Bathing time with your cat is fun. When you cat is mellow bathing time can be a play session. Make sure you trim her nails, brush her hair, and check her mouth and teeth regularly.

Always remember that a clean pet would always be a happy pet. So keep your cat clean and well groomed always and you too will love her even more.

How NOT to transfer rabbits from one environment to another

It might seem like a great idea to just pick up your rabbit, and walk them over to their new environment, but you might want to make sure that your nephews aren´t going to bound into the house followed by two loud dogs. Right. You might also want to make sure that you´ve closed all of the doors so that no one can get out.

Are you seeing where this is going yet?

I spent the better part of this morning, stalking, chasing, leaping at, missing, and nearly tackling a floppy eared rabbit named Sam. He had just come the shelter this morning, and I wanted to get him out of the plastic carrier and into our temporary rabbit environment, which has a lot more space, and would be less likely to stress him out while we tried to place him. You know, less stressful than say, being chased by me and my nephews while we wave carrots around like madmen and try to coax him back. He wasn´t having it.

Anyway, I got everyone out of there, and just sat in the yard for about an hour, holding a carrot, and trying to not make eye contact. When he finally got the nerve he came a little closer and I was able to lure him over close enough to grab him.

You´d think this was the first day on the job.

Lesson learned, even a quick thing like moving an animal can go terribly wrong. Thankfully he wasn´t hurt, and as I write, he´s nibbling lettuce in his cage. So much for a stress free morning. Anyone want to adopt a rabbit, by the way?

Chronicles

My name is mark and I'm a pet lover. I have dogs, fish, cats, bunnies. I run an animal shelter and take care of lots of animals. Animals are neglected too much. I am going to write about how to care for various pets, animals issues, and some random thoughts by me. I guess nothing too exciting but I hope people learn how to care for animals better and get more involved with pet issues!
